The store next door

As far as I could remember I was able to finish my plate easily. Questions like how can you eat all of that, were never a surprise.

But opening Egypt’s best ice cream shop in the house next door was a challenge I wasn’t ready to face.

What do you do, when Dara’s ice cream shop opens next to you?

I have been hearing through friends that Dara’s was opening in Maadi. Eager to find out its location I started my research. First I found out it was the same street as mine and then the house next to mine? Full of excitement I started calling everyone I knew living in Maadi, to share with them the best news I had in a while.

First came excitement, then hit reality! I can’t go eat ice cream everyday! So the naive person I was, promised myself I would never set foot into that shop. Whenever I fancied Dara’s I would drive to any other location. So I could control my ice cream intake.

The opening of the store hit our small street hard. You couldn’t find a parking spot anymore. People were just sitting everywhere enjoying some, may I say, delicious ice cream. It was super loud and I was just super annoyed. A few weeks later my mom wanted some ice cream, and to my surprise she suggested the store next door. I gave in under the pressure and decided to opt for a chocolate chip cookie, convincing myself I still held to my promise of not eating ice cream. And there was my first mistake. One bite, and I was never the same.

Never in my life, not in Paris, Milan, Barcelona or Bali have I tried something so good and delicious. It’s like I’ve tasted happiness and comfort for the first time.

Telling my best friend about my experience, there came my second mistake. The day after I tried their Belgian chocolate waffle cone, their brownie cookie...etc. Safe to say there’s not one thing I haven’t tried on their menu, I even drove an hour to their flag ship store and stood in line for another two, to try their soft ice cream and churros. And I would do it all over again.

SO what’s the moral of this story, you must be asking yourself?

You can’t eat ice cream everyday, or at least I can’t, but you can eat something delicious from Dara’s desserts everyday.

Dara in case you ever read this, thank you for making my everyday a lot sweeter <3
