Rushing into our hearts

Updated: Nov 1, 2020

Just a little disclaimer, this isn’t a story with a happy ending, but a real one for all parties involved. Life isn’t always easy; it’s full of challenges and tough decisions. I guess this story is one of those times.

On the 6th of October we welcomed Rush into our family.

Her first owners -or as we like to call them- her biological parents had already named her. Even though we had been discussing, voting and planning for weeks what we would call her, Rush seemed perfect. She was rushing through the whole house, right into our hearts.

A little side note: My cousins are the ones who got her not me but there’s nothing I wanted more than a dog since I can remember, so I like to pretend I got her a little too.

Anyway, back to this perfect little creature, you couldn’t get enough off. Even when she destroyed something or pooped everywhere, you couldn’t get mad at her. Her little black eyes made you forget that there’s bad in this world.

A few days in, my youngest cousin, who initially wanted her the most, couldn’t sleep, study or play with his friends anymore. He couldn’t stand hearing her cry, when they had to put her in a room over night, as she was too young to go outside. He couldn’t train her properly, when she wasn’t behaving. He would just sit there and watch her eat, sleep and play, feeling like the responsibility of this world was on his shoulders.

My eldest cousin, who is already working, would try and help out after a long working day. Everyone started pitching in, as the realisation came, a dog is not just for playing around.

Unfortunately, we had to give her up for adoption and found a beautiful family to take care of her. We put her first over our desire, because we couldn’t fulfil her needs.

We didn’t have her for long, but it still broke our hearts.

I hope you take something out of this story and learn from our mistake.

A dog is a beautiful soul, that needs to be taken care of and nurtured.

You have to understand that it needs the same attention and time as a baby.

You love and have patience. Putting that beautiful soul before anything else and at any time given.

If you can not do that. Don’t get a dog. No matter how much your children are begging or how long you have wanted one. It is a huge responsibility not everyone is up for and that is okay.

A dog may become part of your family, but always remember: You are his whole family.

Love,

Nour

We have all been there. In some way or another every woman I know has been put in a position by a man, she was not comfortable with. Some scenarios are more extreme than others. The #MeToo movement, i
